Freebilicious Link Mother's Day Math Journal

 

So I know many of you out there are using Math Journals as a way to reinforce various math skills! My kids really like the math journals we have been doing. Mine are a little different. I found that when I printed a monthly journal it seemed like such a grand plan......But I was failing with it. I was sending snowmen journals home in April....Not good! PS They weren't finished!

So I have made it a bit more manageable and have been doing weekly journals. They typically go along with our theme or holiday for the week. So we put together a Mothers Day week long math journal for all of you as a freebie! Many thanks to my followers & anyone else stopping by! Please leave a comment if you download!

So this picture is actually the way I ended the week last week.....It was the NAEYC week of the Young Child at Fancy's daycare last week! Here was neon day!

 

 

In class we have been using a 4 square graphic organizer. We have had great success with this! Do you use an organizer? Which one do you like best?

And all of this happened while the hubby was out of town for 2 weeks! Boy I depend on him a lot! The little Fancy missed her daddy like crazy! His company sent the spouses a little gift as a thank you for supporting their employees! Nice surprise!

Freezing Spring BLAH!

Ok so mom brought it to my attention about 5,000 times that I had not posted ANYTHING recently. I think I am in a BLAH!  My building is in testing season like I am sure many of you are. During this time we totally flip our schedule upside down, which I am sure you can guess what that does to the kids as well as the adults!

Then here in the Midwest it seems that spring refuses to come! It has been cold! I think I have worn sandles 3 times....What a shame! So I am tired of my winter clothes....I know stop the whining!

Anyhow Here I am posting MOM!!!!

My kids! Now that is some exciting heart warming stuff! This is one of the sweetest classes EVER! The work so well in groups and literally need NO redirecting in centers (ok maybe once in awhile) but you get my drift! They have made huge gains! It is amazing! I have this one little guy who couldn't recognize a single letter and seriously tried to beat me up to get passed me to mom the first week of school! Now he is writing 4, 5, 6 sentences in 1 setting at a story! All on the same topic, varying sentence structure, proper capitalization, and sight words spelled correctly! I could go on and on! I just LOVE this little guy and am so happy about how well he has done! I have multiple stories like this! I will really be sad to see this group go!

I have been doing some reading about close reading, is anyone familiar or have any thoughts on it?

Also we are adopting new math curriculum for next year and I was on the selection team. We heard from 4 vendors(not sure I can say names...) anyone LOVE their series or hate it and willing to say so??

So Much Progress!

So we are in 4th quarter now! I feel like this group of kiddos has had an enormous amount of progress! They were slow starters but boy once they got up and going they haven't slowed down for a minute! It is so much fun when they get to this point. We have been doing so many fun projects! This week of course we have been concentrating on chick, bunny, & egg stuff! I created a little packet to assist in practicing on their addition and subtraction and they have loved using all of the papers and the centers in that packet!

This group of kids definitely loves "Math Journals" I think it feels like a big kid activity to them! I loved there little chick drawings! Aren't they cute?

Pete the Cat

What a great time! We spent the week in the world of "Pete the Cat". Autumn had the privelege to introduce Mr. Eric for his session on Saturday Morning at the Missouri Conference on the Young Years.

I enjoyed my role of being the Nana and being sure that my granddaughter, Naomi had a great Pete the Cat appliqued tee shirt to wear to help her mom inroduce Eric.  We bought Pete the Cat stuffed animals,  CDs for ourselves and daycare. Naomi and I enjoyed sleeping in and feeding the ducks on the lake, while Autumn worked as a member of the Planning Team. She discussed sessions with me at meal time about student behaviour, development of math skills, brain research, and all the great friends that she was able to reconnect with!

Naomi got to go on stage to for the introduction! We were sad to learn that there will not be anymore Pete the Cat books by Eric Litwin. The illustrator James Dean decide to use his character Pete to write his own stories. But Mr. Eric is working on some new characters.We can't wait to see those new ones!

Conference on the Young Years!

We leave in the morning to head to the lake for the DESE Conference on the Young Years! I am on the planning committee for this conference. The best part this year is I have the priviledge of introducing Eric Litwin. Yep you heard me right! Pete the Cat's author! I adore Pete! My  class does as well. My daughter really loves Pete! I ordered her a super cute Pete top & made a matching bow! Is there anyone else out there going to CYY? If so I would love to meet any of you!

Winter Blooms

While Autumn has been snow bound, I have had warmth and rain.  Went out today to pick up branches that have fallen of treetops, and found some Poinsettas that are over a year old. I had planted them after Christmas in 2011. They grew and stayed green all last summer. It has not been down below freezing much this winter and they have survived. But I was pleasantly surprised when I saw them today. It just makes one smile to see blooming plants and realize how great life is. Take time to see what blooms.
