When you are retired and not raising children, you can get ready ahead of time. I am one of those people that have tried my whole life to get organized and always find an item I have collected after the holiday. When I relocated, I started keeping clear boxes with holiday decorations in them. I would use larger tubs, but they get stored in the attic and have to fit through the attic opening. Also, as you get older you can't lift large tubs like you did when you were younger.
I collect things from our thrift stores on island all year round and even buy some things at retail stores. Regardless if we have a party, I decorate. The neighborhood kids are waiting to see how my "Lawn Jockey" looks each holiday.
So wave out your flags and get out your red, white, and blue. I am considering painting an old sheet to make a bunting. We'll see.
Hey Gang, I rely on Autumn to do most of blogging and socializing. But she is so busy this summer being a mom to a 2 almost 3 year old. So I am trying to keep up.
Both my children were here last week with their families and no one was bored. I slept soundly each night and overslept one afternoon nap and one morning. Autumn loved going to beach yoga and did get to experience jet skiing in the ocean. We all went to the beach several days, cooked large family meals at the rental and swam in the pool, went out to eat, saw little ones sing and dance, played miniature golf, and part of family went parasailing.
If you go to the beach enoughyou learn to watch the tide schedule or ask the lifeguard so that you don't have to move. With the full moon we are really having high tides in the evenings and it is up on both sides of our street. We live close to the marsh. Thinking I should now do a Moon Unit. I just finished a little Here Comes the Sun Unit.
Nana's Doc McStuffins's toys and books were a hit. So I have never had my ears, eyes, reflexes, heart checked so much. Not to mention all the shots I got and was told, "Don't cry, Nana."
When you are retired, you can vacation whenever you would like. But Summer Vacations are such a tradition. Believe it our not, Nana and Poppy like to go to Dover, Delaware, to NASCAR at the Monster Mile. We do not travel hard and heavy. We go slow and take our time getting there and home. It was very warm while we were there and a great time was had by all. Our driver Jeff Gordon came in third. I enjoy watching all the people. We stay in the motel and get to see all the RVs and campers set up and decorate from our back window. It is like watching teacher's set up their classrooms. They all show their favorites in so many ways. They have car colors, numbers, logos, cut outs, car parts, etc. This was the first time I have been anywhere that was selling alcohol infused cigars. NO, I did not buy or try one. (Confession, part of me wanted to.) Go figure, middle child and Aquarius. Looking forward to my family and grand kids starting to come in to the island next week. So we will have a wonderful Father's Dayand summer time together. So, I got our Father's Day Unit posted for those of youin year round, summer school, or not out yet. Much love, Autumn & Ruth
