Opening Day of Baseball

Baseball Season is here!
Our family starts early with Spring Training in Florida. So I have Autumn's class ready to go. We had a great time. Here are a few of our pics.

7th Inning Stretch with Orioles. The Bird dance with a fan on top of the dugout to "Thank God I'm a Country Boy".

We go to watch the Orioles, while Autumn's students are most familiar with the KC Royals.

Now we've hooked up with Lisa over at Pawsitively Teaching for an Opening Day/Customer Appreciation giveaway!

March Madness Friday

You think Fridays come around fast when you work, wait till your retired and they come even faster. It is here all ready! Well, as you well know my family is sports geeks! So March Madness continues this week. It goes on at home and school.

In their word work are ready to print pages with beginning and ending sounds work.
And putting their Vocabulary cards in ABC order gave them experience looking past the beginning letter. Challenging and a teachable moment.
This group still loves to graph! It does not matter if it is set graphing boards or Spinning themselves. Interesting to watch how they organize data. (Do all the same items get the same color or is it just a random color they want to use?  Does it matter?)
I could have listed the basketball items that are for sale in our store, but I have moved on to baseball. I am just getting home from Spring Training in Florida. Best thing for me was seeing Pat Sajak and getting him to autograph a baseball. Spring Training is over and it is time for baseball.
Much love,
Autumn and Ruth

Daughter's Love Turns Me Into Queen

I am not sure that daughters realize the power they have over their mothers. Moms are the ones that are supposed to empower their daughters, but as time goes on the roles reverse.

I had noticed gradual changes. But this last trip to visit my children,  I felt the tables turned. Since I retired there has been no need for me to update my wardrobe. You no longer have to dress up each day for work, but instead just dress for daily task of house, yard work, or hanging out. Yes, you dress for special occasions but have enough things to make due.

Your sneakers are worn out, black slacks and shorts are faded. And yes, even your jeans look bad. Yes, kids can get away with holes in their jeans, but not cool for Nanas.

So Autumn took me shopping. She got to run back and forth and look for colors, sizes, and different styles. And she had all the store clerks helping her. Colors or sizes they did not have in stock she had them order and ship.

When I left her home, I left behind a few winter clothes, but I was a newly created "Mom". I had colorful sandals and new shoes, new shorts and capris of all colors, new dresses, summer tops, and even new socks and pajamas. I felt wonderful and had been given patience and confidence. The best gift is always time, regardless which way it is given.

So girls, take time for your moms. We need your support in a different way and gain from your accomplishments.

Thanks to my daughter, I went to Florida feeling great and looking good.

Much love,
Ruth and Autumn

Addictive personality? Anyone else?

Ok I have and addictive personality. I am admitting this here and will likely deny this sometime in the near future! I have become addicted to Jamberry! If you haven't heard of them yet they are they newest thing in nails! They are vinyl nail adhesives that are way better than any store brand out there!! Well I have been spending a ton of time getting all of that up and going! So I have been neglecting my blog. So here it is Wednesday night and yet again no WOW Wednesday. Well I should tell you I was having trouble keeping up and there was not a huge participation, so I decided to cut it down to once a month. So the 3rd Wednesday of each month I will post and host a WOW Wednesday but it is WIDE open! Please add any great idea you have had all month and link it up here!

So just grab the picture and link your idea up below! So just to clarify from now on there will only be 1 linky a month. On the 3rd Wednesday!
So last week we had our math night and I made an activity for a QR code math scavenger hunt. I divided it K-1, 2-3, 4-5 so the kids took a clip board to record answers and an ipad so they could scan and record their answers. It was a huge hit. I did each QR code individually but have since learned I should've gone to QR scavenger hunt and it would've been much faster. Anyone else have Math or ELA family nights? Any great activities for those?

CYY 2014

So we are at Tan Tar a for the annual Conference on the Young years. My mom was a part of the planning committee for this conference in the 80's and 90's. When she left the state she was able to help me get on the planning committee. So I have been helping with the planning portion of the conference for the last 9 years. But this is the first year I decided to present.

So I am really nervous to present! But here goes!! Below I am including the link to my google docs where I included the power point of my presentation where I shared about starting a blog and how I use my blog for education. I am also including information on other social media that I use in the classroom. Enjoy! LOL Thanks for stopping!!

WOW Wednesday ELA

It's that time again!! Time for some WOW!!! Hit me with a great ELA idea. Ok it doesn't have to be traffic stopping ideas but give me an idea!!! I am really trying to keep this linky going but as you can see we are lacking linkers! So if you have a blog LINK up!! If you have a friend with a blog tell them to LINK up!!

So here is what I have on this super busy week.... Charts!! What do you use for charts? These are some of my anchor charts that we have used recently with our writing on the Olympics. Also we have a guest speaker coming in tomorrow to talk to my kids about attending the Winter Olympics.

This is how I usually get my kids going on a topic before we get started. Sometimes we do a video or a book. With the Olympic sports topic we used a lot of videos so they could see the real sport. Also as you can see we started working on verbs (go, go, go words) and adjectives.  What do you use to help get the writing flowing in your class?
Link up and let us know what is working for you!!

Much Love,
Autumn & Ruth
