Making Subtraction Real

So my unique group of kiddos this year are having a super hard time identifying numbers. The weird part is they are catching on quickly to subtraction..... Well we do a daily review sheet all sorts of kindergarten math skills are on it. I started telling a silly story in passing to help make the subtraction problem real. Such as Sara has 5 dogs Tim came over and borrowed 3 of her dogs. How many dogs does Sara have left at her house? I always use my kiddos names in the story! They LOVE this part! So they get it. Now to create my own addition that is that interesting..... On the review paper the addition is just dots!
Anyone have any great tips for helping with number recognition?? Especially those pesky teens?

Lesson or test?

OK. I'll keep on trying. Hopefully this works right. If not, I'll have my daughter fix it!
It is funny how our roles keep reversing the more mature I get.

Math Quickie

My kiddos this year are having a really hard time getting numbers! So we have been very S-L-O-W-L-Y working our way thru numbers. So I had been using someones fabulous sheet with my kids on each number. The sheet was perfect for numbers up to 10. Well tomorrow is 11, so I put together this little sheet to use! Most of it is self explanatory but they say it with 2 lines, My kiddos are stuck on the spanish number(I will have to look up11). You could also use the "th" of the number eleventh...
Also they LOVE the Roman numeral! Feel free to white out what doesn't work for you or email me what you want added or removed and I will send you one!

Autumn

Here are a couple of quick pictures I took today! Almost all of my kiddos did great with our new paper! Tomorrow we will continue with working on 11. Oh and doing TONS of quarterly testing....YEAH!

Harvest, Fall, Autumn, and Halloween

So I spent most of the rainy day yesterday working on finishing up several items! I have my Common Core Math Activities in 2 versions. One is Halloween themed and the other has a AUTUMN theme! Most of the activities are very similar so you could easily use both of them to repeat and continue working on the same skills. I set these sheets up in the way that my district is currently testing these skills. If there is a different way you would like to see the worksheet please share! Each of the worksheets have the common core standard at the bottom of the page. In the Autumn Math I included a letter that I sent home on Friday to my families asking for them to collect leaves. We are then going to make a class graph out of these and I included an individual graph. Also with this there is a sheet to answer questions about the graph.

I also finished up my Autumn Activities and Songs. This unit includes an original song by my mom!!!(Ruth-Nana) Her song is all about the life cycle of a pumpkin. I have also included a poster of the pumpkin life cycle and a worksheet for students to do about the life cycle. Finally there is a set of vocabulary cards and several other songs & literacy activities.

As you can see I am hoping for more followers soon and we are headed toward an upgrade on our blog! Please check back & follow us if you are not already!!

As a side note the main reason I created this graphing activity was because I had used a similar one and the assistant superintendent complemented that one, since I live on compliments I thought this would be a great chance to do the same type thing again!

I mean its all about the learning that kids get not me being complimented LOL....

Pumpkins

Great activity to use in a center with the small mini pumpkins or in a whole group setting to compare the weights of various objects to a pumpkin! Enjoy! All of my adventures with applesauce to come!
