Left Overs Friday!

I absolutely love the holidays! Thanksgiving is just such a happy start to the holidays. Unfortunately neither the hubby or I have family close by. So some years we opt to go watch football (Let's go Hawks) But this year we decided to stay home and host. So we have friends that are coming over! Which I know will be tons of fun. My friend Dixie is bringing red velvet cake! Which is my fav!!!

So for this weekend I will be eating WAY to much and shopping WAY too much and then like all teachers working to figure out what we are doing in my classroom for December!

I will also be creating this little left over!! One of my besties sells Tastefully Simple and I love it! So I will be using my left over turkey with this potato cheese soup!

My wonderful friend Missy over at Dirt Road Teacher organized this linky and giveaway! So you can plan for December with items that are on sale for only one day(Black Friday) and get a chance to win some moola(Visa) to finish your shopping!!
So here are a few of the items that are on sale for half off in my store today that I will be using soon and hope you can use too!

Back to School

My little one headed off to kindergarten this week! She was so excited and so ready! I am so happy for her. Sending these little people off unto the world is filled with mixed emotions. But so far she is LOVING school!

Our school district has what they call a staggered start. This is amazing especially from the teacher perspective! Each teacher only has 6 kindergartners per day for the first 3 days then they all return on the 4th day! What a great time to build community and make them feel comfortable! So on day 2 we headed to the beach!!

Now that my little lady is at school all day it has given me time to finally really work again! So you can grab this Olympic color packet for just $1!! There are color by sight word and color my number pages!

I also got a chance to spruce up our Close Reading on Labor Day. It includes a color passage to project for the class, student passages to make notes on, alphabetical order page with vocabulary from the passage, vocabulary cards with pictures, writing paper, and a label the dates on the month page!

And finally this is my little lady preparing us a snack! She said mommy I just want to spend time with you! Melt my heart! So we played all night in her play room!

So overall a pretty good week! I would like to get some honest reviews on my Close Read! So if you have looked at all my pictures, leave me a comment & your email and I will randomly pick 5 people this weekend to send my close read to!!!

Holidays Around the Blog: Hanukkah

So the super awesome Mrs. Labrasciano put together this awesome linky for us to all share about what we do to celebrate the holidays! One of the best things we do in my class is share about Hanukkah! We have centers, read about it, and make latkes!
 Home made Dreidel
Dreidel with a Pencil
We use a pencil with a copied paper to make pencil dreidels.
 Edible Dreidels
Edible Dreidel
These are a few of my step dad's Jewish items. It helps to explain to the kids if you have the real pieces. We also make edible Dreidels out of pretzel sticks, marshmallow, and a hershey kiss!

We make latkes in class
This is the latke recipe that I use. It uses frozen hasbrowns which makes it so much quicker than grating potatoes!

Hash browns, eggs, flour, salt & pepper
I let the kids help with the measuring a mixing!

I use my griddle to cook them in a little oil.
I get the griddle nice and hot, then with a little oil I cook the latkes!

We eat them with sour cream & applesauce
Then I serve the latkes with applesauce & sour cream.

Sentence order & recording center
I like all of my centers to match the theme we are working on. So this is the sentence ordering center. It also has an accountability sheet! So they get practice matching the words up then writing the sentence!

Make sure you go check out everyone's holiday celebrations! Also link up your holiday celebrations!

The other item I am featuring for $2 is my math journals. These are CCSS aligned. Made it Monday- Kind of

We are joining Made It Monday Linky.
Being retired gives me time to try to make crafts that I find on Pinterest. But no one seems to talk about the crafts that don't mention the projects that did not work for them.
Old Decorative Block

So, I had some old decorative blocks around the house and thought I would make my grandson a block with his last name on it. I wanted to do it in his school colors which are yellow and blue.
1. I painted the whole block yellow.
2. Printed off a pattern for his name.
3. Attached name to block.
4. Painted over it in brown (I did not have blue in my paints.).
5. Went to take off name pattern and globs of brown paint came off and you could not read the name.
6. I sanded all of brown off and waiting.!!!!!!!
Painted over stencil.

Then I had collected idea to take  old sweaters, cut them and make textured colored pumpkins filled with rice.  I got 50 cents sweaters at my resale shop and cut off the cuffs.

Orange cuff  sewed straight.
When I filled it with rice and tied off, It looked like a bean bag not a pumpkin.  So the next one, I tried to sew more curved and then fill.
This did help, but they did not look like what I had imagined. I had given one to the resale lady. She told me it was fun to sit and handle. So I guess they are good stress releasers!
Rice Pumpkins

My collection of pumpkins- square bottom and round bottomed.

I am glad that Autumn had better luck with her talents.

***CLOSE Reading is a huge push in my district! So I have been working on several items for Non-Fiction Close readings on fall animals! I have Raccoons, Squirrels, and Skunks!!
